Samyukta Research Foundation (SRF) with a professed aim to ‘Invest in Future’, constantly endeavours to review and critique the existing knowledge practices towards building and re-building research in Liberal Humanities. We offer a series of research centered programmes under our banner for academia and society. These programmes are based on our concerted efforts to reach out to a global research community and enhance higher learning and development.

SRF Fellowships

SRF Fellowships

SRF offers research fellowships to promising candidates to promote advanced research within the evolving field of Liberal Humanities. Promoting personal research interests in the thrust areas identified by SRF, we hope, will lead to a mutually enriching experience.

SRF PG Research Fellowship

SRF PG Research Fellowship

SRF offers two PG research fellowships per year in the focus areas of the Foundation. Candidates are not expected to be physically present at SRF during the tenure of the research. 

Eligibility 

SRF PG research fellowships are given to promising postgraduates interested in working on the research areas identified by the Foundation. 

Selection 

Fellowships are granted based on the relevance of the research project and its implications as elaborated in the research proposal. Final selection will be made on the basis of the merit of the proposal as well as the subsequent presentation at the interview. Primary selection will be completed by 31 January and the final announcement will be made by 28 February. The decision of the selection committee will be final. Selected candidates are expected to abide by the rules of the SRF research fellowship. 

Duration 

The  duration of the fellowship is three months. 

Grant

The selected candidates will be awarded Rs. 5000/- each. The amount will be disbursed only after submission, review and acceptance of  the research work by SRF. 

Deliverables 

Upon completion of the research, the candidates are expected to submit any one of the deliverables listed below. Candidates applying for the fellowship will have to indicate the deliverable in the research proposal:

  • Position paper (2000 words)
  • Short Film / Documentary in English (15-20 minutes)
  • Interview of a major practitioner in any relevant field (2000 words)
  • Photo essay (25 images with captions and a brief essay of 1000 words )

SRF Doctoral Fellowship

SRF Doctoral Fellowship

SRF offers one Doctoral fellowship per year in the focus areas of the Foundation. Candidates are not expected to be physically present at SRF during the tenure of the research. 

Eligibility 

SRF Doctoral fellowship is awarded to a researcher who has completed at least two years of doctoral research. The scholar must have published at least one research article in an academic journal or a book.

Selection 

Fellowship is granted based on the relevance of the research project and its implications as elaborated in the research proposal. Final selection will be made on the basis of the merit of the proposal as well as the subsequent presentation at the interview. Primary selection will be completed by 30 May 2024 and the final announcement will be made by 16 June 2024. The decision of the selection committee will be final. Selected candidates are expected to abide by the rules of the SRF research fellowship. 

Duration of the Fellowship 

The  duration of the fellowship is five months.

Grant

The fellowship amount is Rs. 15000/-. The fellowship will be disbursed in two installments. The first installment of Rs 5000/- will be given at the end of two months after review. The second installment of Rs 10,000/- will be released after the review of the research submitted.  

Deliverables 

Upon completion of the research, the candidate is expected to submit any one of the deliverables listed below. Candidate applying for the fellowship will have to indicate the deliverable in the research proposal:

  • A research article (6000-8000 words)     
  • A documentary in English (30 minutes duration) and a reflective essay based on the documentary (2500 words)
  • A short film in English (30 minutes duration) and a 2500 words note on the theme 
  • An e-content on the research with visuals and voice-over (30 minutes duration) 
  • Translation of 3 short stories (selection of the stories subject to the approval of the review committee) and a reflective essay of about 1500 words on it.

SRF Postdoctoral Fellowship

SRF Postdoctoral Fellowship

As we strictly follow the Covid protocols, the recipients of 2022 Fellowships may work from home. However, they are expected to make presentations online as stipulated by the Foundation.

Eligibility

SRF Postdoctoral Fellowships (SRF PDF) are awarded to doctoral degree holders to further strengthen the knowledge base gained during their PhD research. The scholar should have at least one book or 3 research articles in the area of their proposed research.

Selection

Fellowships are awarded on the basis of the scope for further study and the relevance the subject holds in terms of value addition to knowledge capital. The applicant must address this aspect in the research proposal.

The final selection shall be made based on a 10-minute presentation, followed by an interview. The short-listed candidates would be informed by 30 May 2024 and the final selection will be announced on 16 June 2024. The Fellowships can be availed from 1 July 2024.

Note

Those who have submitted their doctoral thesis are eligible to apply for the SRF- PDF by producing the submission certificate from the concerned university. However, the Fellowship amount will have to be refunded if the PhD degree is not awarded within 12 months from the date of commencement of the PDF.

The decision of the Selection Committee will be final. Selected candidates are expected to abide by the SRF Fellowship Regulations and give an undertaking to this effect.

Duration

The duration of the SRF- PDF is six months from the date of commencement of research. The recipient is free to choose this date but the fellowship must be availed by at least six months from the date of the announcement of the award.

Grant

The Fellowship amount is Rs. 25,000/-. The Fellowship would be disbursed in two instalments. The first instalment of Rs 10000/- is disbursed after a presentation of 15 minutes on completion of one month of research. The second instalment of Rs 15,000/- is released after an expert committee reviews the document submitted on completion of the research.

Accommodation

The selected scholar is eligible for 30 days Residency at Samyukta Research Centre, Kowdiar, Thiruvananthapuram, for data collection, reading or preparation of the final document. The dates of the Residency have to be finalised at the time of acceptance of the Fellowship. Please note that the dates once fixed cannot be changed or split.

Deliverables

Upon completion of the research, the candidates are expected to submit any one of the deliverables listed below:
• A monograph on the topic chosen for the PDF. (20,000 words approx)
• 2 research articles on the topic chosen for the PDF. (6000-8000 words approx each)
• Translation of an important text from any genre in a regional language with a critical introduction. (6000-8000 words approx)
• Short history of a region with supporting documents. (20,000 words approx)
• Short history of changing landscapes with focus on climate change. (20,000 words approx)
• Photo essay of a festival or a ritual or a performance. (15,000 words approx)
• Short history of an ethnic group. (20,000 words approx)
• The biography of a person.(20,000 words approx)
• The cultural biography of things.

Candidates applying for the Fellowship are expected to indicate the deliverable in the research proposal.

The document submitted on completion of the PDF may be considered for publication in Samyukta: A Journal of Gender & Culture or in the Samyukta: Work in Progress Series.

SRF Writer in Residence Fellowship

SRF Writer in Residence Fellowship

Samyukta Research Foundation believes in the power of writing and in the necessity of cultural exchanges between writers. Hence, we invite a woman writer to spend a month at the Samyukta Research Foundation, located at Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India, every year.  The Foundation provides the writer a congenial third space away from home and office, to immerse herself in writing. The selected writer is provided with free accommodation, and a comfortable workspace. The expenses of travel and other related expenditures are to be borne by the writer. SRF requires the writer to give one public lecture during the period of her stay. The writer is also expected to acknowledge the support of SRF in the resulting publication.

SRF International Translator in Residence Fellowship

SRF Translator in Residence Fellowship

 

Samyukta Research Foundation considers translation as a means to promote cross cultural understanding. The SRF Translator in Residence Fellowship is instituted to provide women translators and Translation Studies scholars the opportunity to work uninterrupted on a translation project, for a period of one month, at the Foundation situated in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India. The selected translator / scholar will be provided with free accommodation and a comfortable workspace. The expenses of travel and other related expenditures are to be borne by the Fellow. SRF requires the fellow to give one public reading/ lecture during the period of her stay. The fellow is also expected to acknowledge the support of SRF when publishing the translation.

SRF Certifications

SRF Certifications

SRF offers a series of flagship certifications in the evolving multidisciplinary field of Liberal Humanities.The certifications are offered to undergraduate and postgraduate students, researchers and teachers. These enabling interventions are planned to help scholars position themselves at par with the best according to international standards. Drawing from the critical strength of SRF in research and publication, our aim is to promote ‘global citizenship education’ to bridge gaps in academic studies and invest positively towards a better future. Upon successful completion of the courses, the participants will be issued a certificate.

Introductory Certification

Introductory Certification

Introductory certification will provide an overview of an established or evolving field of study in Liberal Humanities identified by SRF. It will provide an initiation into the nature, conceptual and historical aspects, trajectories and significance of the field of study as distinct, yet interwoven.

Classes will be conducted for 5 hours in the online mode combining different instructor-led levels of engagement depending on the nature of the field taken up for discussion. Fee: Rs 500 /-

Intermediate Certification

Intermediate Certification

Intermediate certification will enable a deeper engagement with an established or emerging field of study identified by SRF. The certification will give a theoretical anchoring of the field and will explore the multifaceted dimensions, possibilities and prospects. The intermediary level coaches will ensure a better understanding of the possible ways and directions to approach a particular field of study.

The certification is planned for 10 hours in the online mode combining different instructor-led levels of engagement depending on the nature of the field taken up for discussion. Fee: Rs 750/-

Advanced Certification

Advanced Certification

Advanced certification will facilitate comprehensive understanding of the research directions pertaining to a field or inter-related fields. The certification will help to identify and explore pertinent research areas using appropriate theoretical frameworks, methodologies and practices.

At the end of the programme, participants are expected to submit a research proposal and work towards an academic article worthy of publication.

The certification is planned for 15 hours in the online mode combining different instructor-led levels of engagement depending on the nature of the field taken up for discussion. Fee: Rs 1000/-

Integrated Certification

Integrated Certification

Integrated certification is an advanced certification offered exclusively to help faculty members integrate research based teaching into academic spaces. The certification will train teachers in appropriate pedagogical practices, preparing courses and syllabi and developing MOOCs. With publishing as an integral part of academia, the course will also provide necessary training in the preparation of manuscripts for publication.

The certification is planned for 25 hours, combining lecture and workshop modes of online / offline engagement. Faculty members have to complete the certification within one month in the self-paced mode. The Foundation will also offer this certification to faculty members of a University or College factoring in their specific requirements. Fee: Rs. 2500/-

SRF Internships

SRF Internships

Samyukta Research Foundation offers Internship opportunity to graduate and postgraduate students, to give them real time work experience. The internship is designed to bridge the gap between the academia and the industry, the classroom and the world outside.

We offer internships from one to six months depending on the availability of opportunities at SRF. The call for internships would be open throughout the year. Both online and offline modes are available. The Interns will be issued a certificate on satisfactory completion of the programme. No stipend would be provided.

Mentorship Programmes

The mentorship programmes at Samyukta Research Foundation (SRF) offer a wide range of dynamic services to students of Humanities pursuing graduate, postgraduate, doctoral and postdoctoral degrees. Ranging from flagship certification programmes for undergraduate and postgraduate students to advanced interventions for those engaged in higher research across various streams of Humanities, the SRF mentorship programmes provide a hands-on experience of applying critical thinking to research practices. Our team of vibrant thinkers mediate and assist researchers in doing their chosen projects with critical exactitude. Our mentoring programmes are not a stand-in for academic courses in the universities. What we offer is a supplement to the former and a bridge for dedicated and diligent researchers grappling with the uncertainties and challenges of conceptualizing and furthering research.

The SRF team of highly experienced academicians who have been at the helm of multifarious research projects, engages the researchers through sustained discussions and mentor them to excel. Apart from the core team at SRF, we liaison with experts in particular fields, as and when a project demands such association. We offer advanced mentoring in 15 key areas of research in the Humanities: Peace Studies, Translation Studies, Gender and Culture, Media and Communication, Cinema Studies, Performance Studies, Popular Culture, Sexuality Studies, Health Humanities, Life Writing Studies, Urban Studies, Travel Writing, Food Studies, Kerala Studies and Education Studies.
